I took both puppies to our vet and our vet confirmed that Teddy Bear did have a heart murmur, he was guessing a number 4. He sent us to Dr. Johnson who did x-rays and a cardio ultra sound and said it was a PDA. We saw Dr. Johnson for three months= to monitor Teddy Bear's heart, until he got a little bigger for surgery. If he was too small they would have had to do open chest surgery. When Teddy Bear was big enough, 4lbs. 8ozs., we went to UC Davis where Dr. Orvalho and Nick, his student, met us. They took Teddy Bear and ran tests on him to make sure he could have the coil procedure. Everything came back great so the next day they did the surgery. He needed one coil to close his hole. They said the heart murmur was gone. There was a little blood still getting through, but it wasn't any thing to worry about, it should seal itself, and if not, it didn't matter. On the next day we were sent home and told to keep Teddy Bear calm for 2 weeks.
Teddy Bear is doing great and wilder than ever.
I just want to thank you, Anna (for your story and helping me be prepared) and Dr. Orvalho, Nick, and U.C. Davis for saving my Teddy Bear.
Thank you,
Kathy Kraut
